In Surrender, I Find Rest

By Semona Michael

With the constant struggle of being in control and micromanaging everything, from packed school lunches to that broken letter box, from virtual meetings to planning soccer game drop offs, life is a never ending struggle of being on top of things, of responsibilities and the drama of making choices, it’s just draining and exhausting.

In the midst of all this God asks us to surrender! To allow Him to take control, to help us with discernment through wisdom from His Spirit within us. To rest in Him! How is this possible? How will faith and surrender pack lunch boxes?

While our Christian life is not an exemption from the problems of this world, but strength to journey through it. With God with us we are not alone in our decisions and struggles. We plan, and God directs.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9

Surrendering to God and allowing Him to be a part of every decision allows love into our life and together with that, comes joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control! This then becomes evident to everyone around us, family, friends, colleagues.

Rather than being agitated and stressed, the joy within us begins to get contagious. Life then starts to feel less like a struggle and more wholesome producing fruit that is lasting instead of temporary success. In our grief, our pain, our sadness we are comforted by God’s Spirit with a peace that passes all understanding.

Scripture is filled with God's promises to provide rest when we seek Him. God is an endless source of peace and strength and He created us to need Him!

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

How comforting it is to have someone we can depend on; someone we can trust our family and our lives with. Our loving God wants that from us, to trust Him with everything, to surrender and find rest…
