‘I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine’
Song of Solomon 6:3 "I am His and He is mine!" What a wonderful feeling it is to belong to and to call someone your own! To be loved for who you are, to be heard, cherished, understood, and seen.
I was an only child, and I never knew what it was like to have a sibling, to share stuff with, and to go through childhood experiences together. I would immerse myself in books and find most social settings like picnics and birthday parties very awkward. I had friends, plenty of them actually but couldn’t connect with them as my parents kept moving houses and I had to change schools as well. I was surrounded by people, but alone. I needed to be a friend to have a friend is what I realised later.
It was in university I met Michael, my best friend and now my spouse! We shared so much together, so many adventures, so many memories! So much that life had to offer with all its ups and downs. I was his and he was mine! He was home, my safe place, my delight!
It’s a lovely feeling to be connected to and to belong, be it to family, friends, church, community, or common groups. But there is also this understanding that everyone and everything we are connected to in this life is temporary........
Only God is constant, lasting, and forever!
God has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Deuteronomy 31:8
We are not to journey through life alone, He is with us and He sends His people to be there for us. Isaiah 41:10
When sin separated us from Him, He sent us His only son to reconcile us back to Him. John 3:16
God is beloved to us!
We are beloved of Him!
Paul speaks of how believers are the beneficiaries of God’s “glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved". Ephesians 1:6
So, my dearly Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:7-8
